Lending Director - global eCommerce Travel Leader -- TH-Bangkok

Role open to local or international talent. My client will provide visa sponsorship and relocation assistance if required.

  • Bachelor Degree in statistics, mathematics, economics or finance
  • Advanced degree in the above a plus
  • Experience in business intelligence, price analysis, elasticity models, reporting systems for strategic decision making
  • Thorough working knowledge of advanced statistical analysis techniques
  • Ability to "think outside the box" and use unconventional methods where necessary
  • Ideal candidates will likely have a background in one of the following:
    • Commodities trading and strategy
    • Pricing and demand forecasting and yield management, possibly in the travel industry
    • Futures and/or options trading, derivatives trading in general
    • Risk management, insurance and financial hedging

As Lending Director you will improve and execute our client's advance guarantee program, in which they make a financial commitment with selected hotels and assume financial risk and responsibility for selling rooms to consumers and to consume the guarantee amount. This program enables them to secure more competitive rates and availability, particularly during high season and other peak periods as well as optimize take rate.

  • Contribute to the design and improvement of new demand prediction models based on internal data (searches and customer behavior) as well as external data (tourism statistics, seasonal trends, etc)
  • Use the demand prediction models to spot markets and assess particular properties with whom the business would potentially benefit from entering an advance guarantee agreement
  • Work with both internal product and marketing teams and partner services teams to optimize mutually beneficial pre-purchase agreements, including details on inventory levels, cash flows, pricing decisions, marketing channel restrictions, opt out clauses, etc.
  • Work carefully with the company's senior management, especially finance and treasury, to monitor the total exposure to risk and to hedge risk as effectively as possible while at the same time scaling up the pre-purchase program
  • Develop the firm's advance guarantee amount risk management policy, including its strategy, processes, controls and systems.
  • Design and improve dashboards, alerts and reports to optimize productions of partners in the program
  • Continually monitor demand and price sensitivity to ensure that the pre-purchased inventory is sold at the best possible margin while at the same time minimizing the risk of spoilage (ie, unsold rooms)
  • Continually identify and analyze key macro risk metrics, such as competitor products, market and political risks, business continuity at the partner property; and review, report and escalate with business and senior leadership team
  • Provide data-derived critical analysis and creative input to contribute to refining the design and development of the program
