Director – Birmingham College of Food
Salary circa £60k, more negotiable for exceptional candidates with significant industry experience.
University College Birmingham is seeking a new Director for its world class and industry-recognised College of Food. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the School of Health, Sport and Food, and leading an outstanding team of around 40 highly experienced and talented lecturers and senior lecturers, in food production, food & beverage service, bakery, confectionery and patisserie. The post holder will look to review our portfolio of Higher and Further Education programmes, refreshing them in line with current industry expectations, trends and student demand. They will instigate cross-university collaboration with other academic and professional and support departments in the development of new programmes. In addition, they will also, working collaboratively with our commercial and kitchen operational and management staff, review the offer in our staff, student and public restaurant to ensure they remain as vibrant and valuable as ever.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent, have strong commercial instincts, and will have a proven track record as a highly effective and respected leader. High energy, innovative thinking, a good listener with the ability to drive through change and an enthusiasm for new and varied ways of developing the curriculum will be of critical importance in this role. Good experience and a developed understanding of the classic side of hospitality and culinary arts education are also critical, in addition to a strong contemporary industry awareness. They will have an understanding of further and higher education in a culinary context, and be committed to ensuring an outstanding student experience for each of our students. UCB is unique in its HE/FE split (70/30), and a good understanding of each curriculum offer and of market dynamics for each sector is important. You will be a charismatic leader who can inspire, excite and engage students, staff and culinary leaders within the modern and rapidly evolving food industry within our great City, regionally, nationally and internationally.
