Say hello to varied work, lots of learning and everyone who walks through our doors.

As a MI5 Security Support Officer, you’re the face of our service, welcoming a variety of different visitors and helping to protect our people, places and property. This means you’re meeting a wide range of people every day, chatting with them calmly and professionally, and helping them to feel safe and secure.

It’s interesting and varied work – as well as welcoming visitors, you could be checking vehicles, monitoring CCTV, or completing accurate logs. And all the time, you’ll keep an eye out for anything unusual. With extensive training tailored to meet your needs and a supportive team around you, along with a personal mentor, you’ll soon settle in. You’ll even have the chance to study for formal, accredited qualifications and develop your career in either our security teams or other parts of MI5.

We’re looking for a good team player who’s used to dealing with a range of people and a variety of situations. So you’ll need a warm, welcoming character and the ability to put everyone at their ease. You won’t need any security experience, but a good eye for detail, some basic IT skills and the character to stay calm in any situation will definitely be useful.

This is a full-time role and you’ll be working either day shifts, Monday to Friday, or a 24-hour shift pattern of two days and two nights, then four days off. As an organisation, we aim to offer as much flexibility as possible, so once you’re settled in, we may offer job sharing and other flexible working options.
