Solmar Villas is based in Burton-upon-Trent and offers its customers the opportunity to holiday in some of the most beautiful villas across Europe.   Our award-winning business continues on a steady path of growth and we now have a fantastic new opportunity for a commercially strategic individual to lead our commercial team.  This role reports directly into the Managing Director/CEO and is pivotal to ensuring the future success of the business.

The Commercial Director will lead the commercial function across the business and drive the success of the revenue, commercial and product streams to deliver expedient growth through increased revenues and profitability.  The role will require the post holder to drive the commercial agenda to achieve a greater market share through mergers, strategic partnerships and possible acquisitions, promoting and generating brand reach.

The key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Responsible for developing a commercial strategy in line with company vision and values covering all regions and emerging geographies to maximise total revenue and profit performance as well as market share penetration
  • Ensure commercial management strategies are set for all revenue streams and that all systems are used to their full potential, maintaining a strong competitive advantage, to yield the highest possible amount of revenue from all available products
  • Lead the team to source/identify new suppliers and partnerships, working with the finance team to negotiate contracts and other commercial deals which deliver the best return for the business
  • Develop new and accurate project bids to maintain and develop the quality of the company product within the strategy and values of the business working to timescales, cost and resources
  • Lead, coach, develop, recruit and retain talent/future talent.  Manage team performance; develop and evaluate the commercial team members on agreed KPIs
  • Execute a continuous improvement process to ensure the business focuses on mid- and long-term plans
  • Analyse and develop performance insights including business trends, drivers, opportunities and threats to determine innovative strategies
  • Evaluate current commercial portfolio and recommend enhancements to drive commercial and product performance whilst supporting the protection of the brand
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to support the effective delivery of the marketing strategy and promotions at various points throughout the year

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years working in a commercial, product and/or revenue generating function at a senior level
  • A minimum of 3 years working in a collaborative environment as a key influencer on the senior management team
  • Significant experience working in the travel industry or an ability to quickly master the nuances of the travel industry and functional challenges
  • A solid understanding of commercial/financial data and able to use such data to make strategic and tactical business decisions
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; demonstrating an ability to communicate and influence at all levels
  • An ability to solve problems; an individual who can resolve issues creatively and in a timely manner whilst maintaining a high degree of flexibility, fortitude and professionalism
  • Strategic and critical thinking; be able to understand business opportunities; applying innovative thought to exploring these to their full potential
  • Leadership experience; experience of managing a cross functional team across different geographies
